Vol. 173 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Child's Removal to Industrial School.

32.

asked the Minister for Education whether his attention has been drawn to the case of a child forcibly removed to an industrial school from his father's care, against the declared wishes of the father and the child, for not attending school or Mass; and whether, in view of the fact that it is not desirable forcibly to disrupt such a family in this way, where the parent insists that he wishes to and is able to care for his child, he proposes to take any action in the matter.

I have seen the newspaper report of the case referred to by the Deputy.

I have no functions in regard to the committal of children to industrial schools, which is a matter for the court of jurisdiction, and, therefore, I do not propose to take any action in this matter.
