Vol. 174 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Cottages.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether Dublin County Council applied to his Department for sanction to build eighty-four council cottages; and if he will state the reason for the delay in sanctioning the building of forty-two cottages on the site concerned at Lucan.

Dublin County Council proposed, in May, 1956, a scheme to develop a site at Lucan and to build 84 houses thereon. On receipt of the proposal the housing needs of the area were reviewed and it was ascertained that a scheme of about 40 houses would meet the existing requirements. Revised plans relating to a scheme for the partial development of the site and the erection of 42 houses were prepared by the council. A proposal to accept a tender for the development work was received in the Department on 17th April, 1958, and was approved subject to certain economies on 22nd May, 1958. A proposal to accept a tender for the erection of the 42 houses was received in the Department on 17th February, 1959, and was approved on 6th March, 1959.
