Vol. 174 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Quality and Price of Locks.

7.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction in the building trade and among house purchasers with regard to the quality and price of locks manufactured in this country; whether a standard specification exists with regard to locks, and, if not, if he will arrange to have a standard specification prescribed.

I have had no complaints regarding the prices of locks manufactured in this country. Some complaints regarding the quality of these locks have, from time to time, come to my attention; these were mainly of a particular nature and did not establish any case that the Irish-made lock was generally inferior to the corresponding imported article.

No standard specification for Irish-made locks exists at present. The possibility of preparing and adopting a suitable standard specification is being examined.
