Vol. 174 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - S.D.A. Loan Facilities.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the county councils which have already availed of the provisions of the Housing Act, 1958, which extend S.D.A. loan facilities to the purchase of old houses; and if he will request the remaining councils to formulate and put into operation a suitably extended loan scheme.

I understand that the following County Councils are prepared to make advances available under the Small Dwelling Acquisition Acts for the purchase of previously occupied houses:—

Cavan, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Limerick, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary (N.R.), Westmeath and Wexford.

A further group of Councils have indicated in reply to enquiries addressed to them recently that proposals to make such advances available are at present under consideration by them. All housing authorities have been made aware that loans from the Local Loans Fund are now available to them for the purpose of making such advances and I have made a personal appeal to the members of these bodies for their co-operation.

Have the local authorities to submit a scheme to the Minister for sanction before bringing it in?

It is entirely at their option to adopt the statutory provision?

Yes, within the provision.
