Vol. 175 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Sowings.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the amount of wheat sown this year as against the two previous years; and whether the amount will be sufficient for home requirements.

While preliminary estimates indicate that the area under wheat this year will be smaller than in the past two years sufficient information is not yet available to enable a firm estimate of this year's acreage to be made.

Does the Minister consider from such estimates as he has so far that there will be sufficient wheat for home consumption this year?

The Minister has not any estimates so far.

Can the Minister not make inquiries?

The Minister has made inquiries.

Does the Minister not know that all the wheat has already been sown or should be?

The Minister has not received any returns from the wheat assemblers or dealers.

Would it not be a good idea if the Minister interested himself in the matter?

The Minister has interested himself in the matter.
