Vol. 175 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Borrowing.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount payable and paid on State borrowing in each of the financial years 1957/58 and 1958/59 (a) in interest and (b) to the Sinking Fund.

Interest and sinking fund payments on direct State borrowing in the years indicated by the Deputy were as follows:—

Interest

Sinking Fund

£

£

1957-58

11,892,854

5,886,858

1958-59

12,479,416

6,772,704

The expression "State borrowing" in the Deputy's question is taken to mean direct State borrowing. The interest and sinking fund figures, accordingly, do not cover the charges on Land Bonds or the State contribution towards housing loan charges, sanitary services or interest payments on Transport Stocks.
