Vol. 175 No. 11

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as on the Order Paper in the following order : Nos. 1, 2, 3, 9 (Votes 46, 35 and 48). It is proposed that consideration of Government Business be not interrupted at 8 p.m. to take Private Members' Business. I understand there is some desire on the part of the Opposition that Vote 48—Roinn na Gaeltachta—should be taken before Vote 35. That may not be possible because the Minister for the Gaeltacht is engaged in the Seanad but, if he should be free from the Seanad, if his business is completed there in time, then it will be proposed to take Vote 48 in advance of Vote 35. It will be possible, I am sure, to make some estimate of the progress of business in the Seanad and to give the Opposition some indication of what is likely to happen in that regard. There is a request, I understand, to take Motion No. 17 and the Government are prepared to agree to take that Motion in whatever time is left for it after the conclusion of the Estimate for the Department of the Gaeltacht.

Would the Tánaiste say what will be the sitting days next week?

It is not proposed that the Dáil should sit next week.

The Government are not going into mourning surely.

The House is not sitting because that was the general desire, I understand.

Will the Dáil sit the following week?

That is the week in which the Inauguration of the President will take place?

The Dáil will sit on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

Why is the Dáil not sitting next week?

I understand there was a general desire on the part of the House, and that includes the Parties opposite, that the Dáil should not sit next week.

I did not hear of any such desire.
