asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are thousands of acres of unworked land in South Tipperary; and whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring this land for division among persons who will work it.

Land Commission statistics are not kept on a constituency basis but in the entire county of Tipperary, during the two-year period ended 31st March, 1959, a total area of 3,555 acres was acquired, resumed or taken over by the Land Commission and a total area of 3,800 acres was distributed amongest 238 allottees. The corresponding figures for the two-years period ended 31st March, 1957, were 2,636 acres acquired and 2,416 acres distributed amongst 116 allottees.

Since 1st April last, an area of 328 acres has been taken over and proceedings are in progress for acquisition of a further 1,400 acres. Altogether, 34 properties, comprising an aggregate area of 6,900 acres, are at various stages of investigation with a view to possible acquisition.
