Vol. 176 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Lands in North Tipperary.

7.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the names of the persons who have offered land in North Tipperary to the Forestry Division for afforestation purposes, (b) the acreage offered and the location of the lands, and (c) the years in which they were offered.

Forestry acquisition statistics are not kept in a form which would readily enable me to furnish information in the manner requested by the Deputy. In any event, it would be contrary to practice to state the names of people who have offered land to my Department for forestry purposes.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to a question on 2nd June, 1959, I am unable to supply general acquisition statistics on a constituency basis. The total area on offer to the Forestry Division in Co. Tipperary as a whole at a recent date was 12,761 acres, consisting of 264 separate lots. Agreement to purchase 30 areas totalling 1,775 acres had been reached, negotiations were in progress for the purchase of 47 areas totalling 2,745 acres and 82 other areas totalling 3,016 acres had been inspected and further investigations were in progress. In addition there were 105 cases involving a total area of 5,225 acres at the preliminary stages of investigation.
