Vol. 177 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - References to Statutes in Bills.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will arrange to have inserted at the end of each Bill now before the Oireachtas a list of Statutes referred to therein in order to provide a ready guide to Members and other interested persons as to the complete range of Statutes mentioned in the Bill; and if he will arrange to have a similar list of Statutes appended to all future Bills on introduction and reprints of Acts of the Oireachtas.

While I would wish to consider sympathetically any suggestion for facilitating the work of the members of the House, I am not satisfied that any worthwhile advantage would be gained by adopting the Deputy's suggestion concerning Bills, since any Statutes affected are referred to in the course of the text of each Bill or in Schedules of enactments proposed to be repealed. If, however, Deputies experience difficulty in this regard in any particular case, I shall be glad to have a list of Statutes affected supplied to the House.

As to the Acts of the Oireachtas, it is already the practice to append to each annual volume a table showing the effect of legislation on previous enactments.
