Vol. 177 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Water Supplies.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that there is an acute shortage of water in the villages of Lorrha and Rathcabbin, County Tipperary; and what steps have been taken to ensure that an adequate supply of water is made available for these villages.

The villages of Lorrha and Rathcabbin are served by hand pumps, the water supply from which was, I understand, affected by the present abnormally dry year. A scheme for the provision of a piped supply to Lorrha has been fully approved and should be put in hands shortly by the Tipperary (North Riding) County Council.

No proposals have been submitted in relation to Rathcabbin.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the water supply to Borrisoleigh, County Tipperary, is unfiltered; and what steps he proposes to take to rectify this position.

I am aware that the piped water supply in Borrisoleigh, which was provided for washing and flushing purposes only, is unfiltered. An improvement scheme involving filtration and further treatment has been under consideration by the county council and I am awaiting their proposals.
