The numbers of candidates who failed in English, Latin and Irish were as follows: English: 352, Latin: 1,048, Irish: 599. Of those who failed in English, 137 failed also in Irish and 253 failed the examination as a whole. Of those who failed in Latin, 196 failed also in Irish and 425 failed the examination as a whole. 373 of those who failed in Irish would have qualified for the award of the Leaving Certificate if they had passed in Irish.
