Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces: Marriage Allowances.

71.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that a married member of the Defence Forces under the age of 21 years does not get a marriage allowance; and if he will rectify the position.

Defence Force Regulations were altered in 1952 to provide that to be eligible for payment of marriage allowance a man of the Permanent Defence Force must have attained the age of 20 years, and rendered one year's service in the Permanent Defence Force. The question of reducing the age further is being examined.
