Vol. 179 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decentralisation of Government Departments.

6.

asked the Taoiseach if the Government have taken any decision concerning the transfer of Government Departments or sections of Departments to provincial centres; and if so, if he will give details and the proposed locations.

7.

asked the Taoiseach if the Government are preparing plans for the decentralisation of Departments by transferring them to cities and towns outside Dublin.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together.

The general attitude of the Government on the decentralisation of Government Departments was expressed in the replies given by the former Taoiseach to Questions addressed to him in this House on 6th June, 1957, and 20th March, 1958.

The Government have taken no specific decisions concerning the transfer of Departments or sections to provincial centres. Certain proposals in this connection are under preliminary consideration, but it would be premature, at this stage, to give particulars of those proposals.
