asked the Minister for Defence what number of regular Army personnel, (1) commissioned officers and (2) non-commissioned ranks, were stationed in Clonmel on 1st March in each year from 1954 to 1960, inclusive.

The sub-units stationed in the barracks are at present under strength but this position will be remedied as quickly as possible.
Does the Minister recall informing me last week that there was no reduction in the number of military personnel in Clonmel as compared with previous years and is he aware that my information is that, whereas there were 400 military personnel there some time ago, there are now 200?
The Deputy's figures are not correct and I think what I said was that as a result of the reorganisation, there would be no significant reduction. It is true that the units stationed in Clonmel are at the moment under strength but that position will be rectified very shortly.
And may I take it that it is the intention, as a result of that rectification, substantially to restore the number of military personnel there heretofore?
Yes; they will generally be practically the same.
