Vol. 180 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Reserve: Promotion in non-Commissioned Ranks.

39.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why no promotions in the non-commissioned ranks of the National Army Reserve were made at the same time as promotions were made in the officer rank recently.

The recent promotions from the rank of Lefteanant to that of Captaen in An Cultaca Oifigeach (An Chéad Líne) were made under a limited scheme of automatic promotion based on fulfilment of certain conditions. In this connection I might mention that in Na Buan Óglaigh a scheme of automatic promotion up to the rank of Captaen has been in existence for some years.

Automatic promotion does not apply in the case of non-commissioned ranks either in Na Buan Óglaigh or in Na hÓglaigh Cúltaca, as the normal short engagement militates against such an arrangement.
