Vol. 180 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Letters from Irish Medical Association.

6.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of letters by prepaid post and by prepaid registered post received in his Department from the Irish Medical Association since 1st January last which have not been acknowledged or to which no reply has been sent.

It is not the practice to preserve in the Department the covers in which letters are received. Consequently, it is not possible to state what letters were received by prepaid post and what letters were received by registered post. It is believed, however, that of the ten letters received in the Department from the Irish Medical Association since 1st January last, three were sent by registered post. Of the ten, one was a copy of a stencilled letter sent, I understand, to all health authorities regarding the salaries of certain categories of local authority officers.

Might I direct the Minister's attention to the fact that the question appears to ask which, or how many, of these letters have been acknowledged and which, and how many, have received no reply?

I am sorry. They have not given me the information which was asked for in that part of the Question. I shall give the information next week. I do apologise.

Perhaps the Minister will hold another Press conference now and explain what happened the letters.
