Vol. 180 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Primary Certificate Examination.

25.

asked the Minister for Education whether it is proposed to continue the system of compelling primary school pupils to undergo the Primary Certificate examination; if so, whether such continuation constitutes a fresh policy decision; and if he will state the reasons for such continuation.

All relevant matters connected with the Primary School Certificate Examination have for some time been a subject of discussion with the organisations concerned. Until these discussions have been completed and the necessary decisions taken I will not be in a position to issue a statement in regard to the future of the examination. In the meantime, the examination will be held this year under the usual conditions.
