Vol. 180 No. 13

Written Answers. - Imports, Exports and Visible Import Excess.

48.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state what would have been the total value of (a) imports (b) exports and (c) the visible import excess in the year 1959 if the terms of trade had been the same as they were in the year 1956.

The values at 1956 prices of the imports, total exports and import excess for 1959 are provisionally estimated at £212.7 million, £120.8 million and £91.9 million respectively. In making these estimates the official import and domestic export price (unit value) index numbers were used to revalue the 1959 totals at 1956 prices.
