Vol. 181 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit and Assistance: Publication of Decisions on Appeals.

3.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if selected decisions of Appeals Officers concerning unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance are published; if so, if he will state the title of the appropriate publication; and, if not, if he will arrange to have a selection of decisions made by Appeals Officers under the Social Welfare Act, 1952, published in the Irish Trade Journal.

The answer to both parts of the Deputy's Question is in the negative. It might be misleading and indeed undesirable to publish a selection of unemployment benefit and assistance appeals decisions and I do not see what purpose would be served thereby. Summaries of some decisions given by the High Court and by the Supreme Court on questions which arose under the Social Welfare Acts are given in the latest Report of the Department for 1954-58 which was published last year.
