Vol. 181 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sale of Agricultural Insurance Stamps.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of agricultural social insurance stamps sold in each quarter-year period for each of the past three years; and the total number of such stamps sold in each year.

Particulars of the quarterly total numbers of social insurance stamps sold in respect of the employment of males and females in agriculture are not available for the following reason.

From the 3rd September, 1956, the contribution rate for male agricultural workers was increased from 2/6d. to 3/2d. and that for female agricultural and female domestic workers and certain other classes was increased from 2/- to 2/6d. For a considerable time after the 3rd September, 1956, the 2/6d. stamp was purchased both for current stamping in respect of the female agricultural and domestic and other workers referred to and for late stamping in respect of male agricultural workers. No segregation is available of the 2/6d. stamps sold after that date as between agricultural and non-agricultural employment or as between male and female employment in agriculture.

The following statement shows the number of social insurance stamps sold at the 3/2d. and 2/6d. rates in each quarter of the past three calendar years and the totals for each year:
