asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of widows in receipt of (a) contributory and (b) non-contributory pensions who have been paid (1) disability benefits and (2) unemployment benefit in the calendar year 1959; and the average weekly rate of such benefit.

The number of widows in receipt of widows' pensions who were paid disability benefit in the year 1959 is estimated to be 2,200. The corresponding figure for unemployment benefit is not available but the average weekly number of such widows in receipt of unemployment benefit is estimated to be 168 for that year.

Figures are not available showing separately the number of widows receiving contributory or non-contributory pensions who are also in receipt of disability or unemployment benefit.

The average weekly rate of benefit paid to such widows is estimated to be 15/8d.
