Vol. 181 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Health Benefit: Payment of Waterford Recipient.

8.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the recurring delays in the payment of national health benefit to a Waterford recipient (No. 1125043).

I do not accept that there have been recurring delays in payment of disability benefit to the person concerned.

This man has been in receipt of benefit since the 4th June, 1959, and all payments due to him have been issued promptly, with two exceptions. The cheques in payment of benefit for the weeks ended 16th February and 15th March, 1960 were incorrectly made out due to misreading of the claimant's name. The cheques were returned for amendment and were reissued in the correct form. This error is regretted and steps have been taken to prevent a recurrence.

Lest there be any misunderstanding in regard to recent payments, I should explain that payment was not due on a certificate dated the 19th April, 1960, for the reason that a payment in respect of the week ended on that date had issued on the 14th April, 1960. This payment was issued in advance of the receipt of the certificate in accordance with ihe normal practice at Easter. The next certificate on which a payment was due was dated the 26th April, 1950, which was received in the Department on the 28th April and payment was issued on the same day.
