Vol. 182 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Ballycotton (Cork) Pier.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that in reference to the consultations begun some years ago between officials of the Office of Public Works and the Department of Lands regarding the extension of Ballycotton pier the then Minister for Lands stated in November, 1957, that consultations had not concluded, and that in February, 1958 he stated that the officials of the Office of Public Works and the Department of Lands and an expert of international repute were still considering the matter; and if he will state (1) the date on which these consultations started, (2) the number of officials of his Department engaged on these consultations, (3) the total number of meetings held and attended by them to date, (4) when the consultations concluded, (5) the total cost of the consultations, and (6) if any report of the result of the deliberations is yet available.

I understand that the Deputy has addressed a similar question to the Minister for Lands, and that the position in regard to the proposed extension of Ballycotton Pier will be set out in the reply to that question.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that I have in this bundle some seven letters dating back to the time when Deputy Bartley was Parliamentary Secretary—three from him and four from Deputy Oliver Flanagan? In all there are 73, starting with the Department of Agriculture in 1950. We should know where we are in this matter.

I am not aware of the letters the Deputy has in his bundle.
