Vol. 183 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garden of Remembrance Memorial.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a competition was held for the design of a memorial to be placed in the Garden of Remembrance; and, if so, what is the name of the winner of such competition.

A competition was not held for the design of the memorial to be placed in the Garden of Remembrance.

Is it intended to have a memorial in the Garden of Remembrance?

It is intended to have a memorial. The original design and lay-out of the Garden were subject to competition, but that competition did not include the actual memorial.

Is there to be a competition for the memorial?

It is not intended that there will be. Certain suggestions were made by the architect, and it was decided to accept them. In the main, they are approved.

Could I ask the Parliamentary Secretary whether the person who will provide the memorial has been decided?

That is a separate question altogether.

It is not a separate question.

It is agreed, in principle, that the work will be given to Austin Kelly.
