Vol. 183 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Employees: Transport between Shannon Airport and Ennis.

26.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total number of State employees claiming car or other motorised travel allowances for private transport between Shannon Airport and Ennis during the most recent year for which figures are available; what is the average rate per journey claimed by each individual; whether Córas Iompair Éireann transport is available at appropriate times; and, if so, what is the single fare for the journey by Córas Iompair Éireann transport between the Airport and Ennis; and what is the total loss to Córas Iompair Éireann as a result of payment of the allowances so claimed in the year.

No allowances in respect of private cars or other private motor transport are paid to any employees in my Department in respect of travel between Shannon Airport and Ennis. The question of loss to C.I.E. arising from the payment of travel allowances between Shannon Airport and Ennis does not, therefore, arise.

The times of the buses between Ennis and the Airport are designed to cater for the various shift-times worked by staff at the Airport. The single fare for the journey by Córas Iompair Éireann transport between the Airport and Ennis is 3s. 10d.
