asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of any body whether created under statute or otherwise of which the directors are paid remuneration and are appointed by him or by the Government the names of any persons who (a) were directors thereof on 20th March, 1957 and are no longer directors, and (b) have been appointed directors since 20th March, 1957.

There is no body created under statute or otherwise the Directors of which are appointed by the Taoiseach.

Minister for Transport and Power (Mr. Childers)

I do not hold share capital in any State-sponsored body. The only State-sponsored Company the directors of which are paid remuneration and who are appointed by me is the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited. This Company was incorporated on 28th January, 1959, and the directors are Mr. B. O'Regan, Chairman, Messrs. G. Farren, A. Kennan, J. Buist MacKenzie, J.J. Walsh, R.C. Ó Conchubhair and Col. P. Maher.

Mr. Childers

I have appointed eight directors to one State-sponsored body, that is, the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited with effect from the 28th January, 1960. One of these appointments expires on the 9th October, 1960. The duration of the other appointments was not specified on the warrant of appointment, but under the Articles of Association of the Company, two Directors retire by rotation at each ordinary annual general meeting and are eligible for reappointment. One director has since resigned and has not been replaced.

I desire to raise on the adjournment the failure of the Irish Embassy in Bonn to come to the assistance of two Irish seamen who were stranded without means in Bremerhaven and also the steps being taken by the Department of External Affairs to come to the assistance of some two dozen or so more Irish citizens believed to be in difficult circumstances in Germany.
