Vol. 183 No. 11

Mental Treatment Bill, 1960—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Mental Treatment Acts, 1945 to 1958.—(Minister for Health.)
Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 26th October, 1960.

Before we pass from these introductions of Bills, may I say that I fully appreciate the difficulty of obtaining material from the draftsman's office? We are very glad to facilitate the Taoiseach and his Government in the introduction of these Bills towards the end of the session but may I take this opportunity of saying that it does present very great difficulty, indeed, if all these Bills are showered upon us in the second week of October when we are all scrambling to digest them and prepare ourselves for their discussion at the opening of the next session?

I shall undertake that the Bills will be circulated as they are ready for circulation.

I am much obliged.

I think I can say that some of these Bills which we had contemplated might be taken in this session can be circulated fairly soon.
