Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - St. Laurence's Hospital: Affiliation with Medical School.

9.

asked the Minister for Health whether St. Laurence's Hospital, Dublin is, or is likely to be, affiliated with a medical teaching school; and, if so, what school and on what conditions.

As the Deputy will appreciate, the word "affiliated" could have a variety of meanings. The practice, which I believe is common, whereby students of any medical school receive credit for attendance at clinics in the hospital might be regarded as constituting "affiliation". If, however, the Deputy has in mind something which is much closer, the reply is that I have recently turned down a proposal from the hospital for an agreement with a particular medical school which would be inconsistent with the provisions of the St. Laurence's Hospital Act, 1943.
