Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Suir Flooding at Thurles.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is prepared to allocate a sum of money to remove obstructions from the River Suir at Thurles so as to alleviate serious flooding of the convent schools and also of dwelling houses at the Mall.

Isolated flooding such as that referred to can be dealt with by the Commissioners of Public Works only in the course of comprehensive drainage schemes under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for entire catchment areas. As the Deputy is aware, a survey of the Suir catchment is now in hands and a scheme will be prepared and works put in hands as expeditiously as possible.
