asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of passengers carried by Aerlínte on transatlantic flights this year and in 1959 to a similar date and by Aer Lingus on European flights to date and to a similar date last year; when Aerlínte will acquire the new jet aircraft; when the service will be inaugurated; and if he will give particulars of the proposed transatlantic services.

The number of transatlantic passengers carried by Aerlínte during the first nine months of this year was 27,067; in the corresponding period last year 19,101 passengers were carried. The percentage of the total transatlantic passenger traffic embarking and disembarking at Shannon carried by Aerlínte in the first nine months of 1960 was 43%. In the same periods the numbers carried by Aer Lingus on European (including cross-Channel) flights were 550,308 and 444,130 respectively.

The scheduled delivery dates of the three new jet aircraft are 24th October, 1960; 18th January, 1961, and 1st March, 1961.

The regular service will be commenced on 14th December and for the Winter period will operate to and from New York at a frequency of three round flights per week, two of which will call at Boston.
