Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing in Wexford.

77.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of new houses required to be built by the Wexford Corporation.

According to the survey of the housing needs of Wexford borough made by the corporation last August, a total of 216 households are stated to be living in unfit dwellings, which cannot be made fit at reasonable expense, or to be otherwise in need of rehousing.

I have not been informed of the number of new houses which the corporation consider is required to be built to meet the net needs arising from the figures revealed by the survey. The determination of building proposals based on such needs is a matter which has now been left to the complete discretion of housing authorities under the terms of a recent circular letter.
