Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electoral Areas in Cork, Waterford and Limerick.

78.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is proposed to introduce legislation whereby Cork, Waterford and Limerick cities will be divided into electoral areas or wards for local election purposes; and if he will give details of such proposals.

The general question of legislation to amend the local elections law, including a proposal to enable the Minister for Local Government, on his own initiative, to divide the county boroughs of Cork, Limerick and Waterford into electoral areas is at present being considered. I am not at present in a position to say when this legislation will be introduced or to give further details of the proposal.
