Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pay and Conditions of Forces Personnel.

96.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is satisfied that the rates of pay and general conditions offered to officers in the armed forces have been maintained on a similar level to those offered to civil servants of equivalent experience and rank.

97.

asked the Minister for Defence if it is proposed to increase the pay of officers, n.c.o.s. and men, and, if so, when.

A Cheann Comhairle, I propose with your permission to take Questions Nos. 96 and 97 together.

The pay of officers of Óglaigh na hÉireann has been adjusted from time to time to meet increases in the cost of living, and in this respect the same rules have been applied to them as were applied to civil servants. I may mention that proposals for increases in Army pay are under consideration at present but no indication can be given at this stage as to what the outcome may be.
