Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Circular to Teachers.

102.

asked the Minister for Education why a recent circular entitled Notes of lesson for pupils of Primary Schools on the Council of Europe was issued to teachers; by whom this circular was prepared; and whether it is proposed to issue a similar circular relating to the United Nations' Organisation and Ireland's rôle therein.

The Department, at the request of the Council of Europe, circularised to all schools a model lesson, as referred to by the Deputy, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Statute of the Council of Europe, of which Ireland is a founder member. The material for the lesson concerned was prepared by the Council of Europe.

The question of issuing a similar circular in relation to the United Nations Organisation does not arise, as no specific request to do so has been received from that Organisation. I may add that explanatory documents furnished by the United Nations Organisation were issued to schools some years ago.
