Vol. 185 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congo Delegate to U.N.O.

20.

asked the Minister for External Affairs which Congo delegate this country's delegate supported for representation in the U.N.O.

Our Delegation have been doubtful of the wisdom of seating any representative of the Congo in the United Nations, pending the receipt and consideration of the report of the Conciliation Commission which it has been proposed should go to the Congo for purposes of helping to find a solution of the country's internal political difficulties. In fact, in the vote taken on the subject in the Assembly last night, our delegation abstained.

In view of the fact that Mr. Lumumba is still the democratically-elected premier of the Congo, will the Taoiseach say why our delegation did not seek to seat either him or his representative, or else vote against the seating of Mr. Kasavubu in the United Nations?

That is an entirely separate question.

Is it not a fact that Mr. Lumumba is still the premier of the Congo?

That is a separate question.

The Deputy should go out and see.

Why did our delegation not vote against the seating of Mr. Kasavubu?

(Interruptions.)

Pontius Pilate washing his hands again. The Taoiseach is walking into trouble.

You will not use Irish troops to set up another Six Counties in Katanga.

The Taoiseach is walking into trouble and he knows it.

You are a bunch of frauds.
