Vol. 185 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ownership of Land Reclaimed from Sea.

26.

Mr. Ryan

andMr. P. Byrne asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will introduce legislation to abolish the right vested in owners of land adjoining the foreshore to claim the ownership of land reclaimed from the sea by a public authority.

I am not aware of any such right as is referred to in the Question. If the Deputies will be good enough to let me have particulars of whatever case they have in mind, I shall have the matter investigated and let them know the position.

Mr. Ryan

In the suburbs of Dublin, on both the north and south coasts, absentee landlords are endeavouring to claim a ground rent out of land which has been recovered by the Dublin Corporation from the sea. That is what the Deputy had in mind.

The Deputy would have to give a more precise indication. The law in regard to this is somewhat complicated. I should have to get a further indication from the Deputy as to what he has in mind before I could give a precise answer.
