Vol. 185 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Telephone Facilities.

36.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the automatic telephone system will be extended to Wexford.

It is expected that the telephone system at Wexford will be converted to automatic working within four years approximately.

Four years?

Four years. I might add for the Deputy's information that the Waterford-Wexford-Enniscorthy radio link for which the contract has been placed will ensure adequate circuiting for Wexford and the model manual exchange already there is capable of providing a good standard of service for Wexford subscribers.

You will have it for the next Presidential election.

This work is portion of the development programme planned arising out of increased capital made available by me.

At least the Minister did not say "in the near future".

More was made available under the recent Bill than was made available to the Post Office for this work when the Deputy held office in a former Government.
