Vol. 185 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Wheaten Offals.

4.

asked the Taoiseach the quantity and value of wheaten offals imported in the twelve months ended 31st October, 1960, or to the nearest available date.

Imports are brought to account according to the headings of the Official Import List and the heading relating to the Deputy's inquiry is Corn offals (bran, pollard and other). In the twelve months ended 31 October, 1960, imports recorded under this heading amounted to 1,148,753 cwts. to a value (c.i.f.) of £1,158,386.

Is the Taoiseach aware of the amount of unmillable wheat in the country at the moment and does he intend to use this instead of some of the imported offals?

The Deputy asked for figures and he got them.

I think that the practice of asking a statistical question and then following it up with a Supplementary Question relating to policy matters is an undesirable one. If the Deputy wants to ask questions on policy could he not put them on the Order Paper in the ordinary way?

The Taoiseach is being very touchy to-day.
