Vol. 185 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Legal Age for Marriage.

13.

asked the Minister for Health if he intends to introduce proposals for legislation to extend the legal age for marriage in Ireland.

This matter has already been the subject of representations to me. These representations have been under consideration in my Department, but as their examination has not yet been completed I am not in a position to indicate what action will ultimately be taken in the matter.

Could the Minister say whether it is contemplated that legislation will be introduced?

It is under consideration but, as the Deputy knows, it is not a very easy problem.
