Written Answer. - Civil Servants' Salary Scales.

58.

asked the Minister for Health if he will indicate the minimum and maximum salary scale, including cost of living bonus, marriage allowance, etc., appropriate for civil servants employed in the following grades of his Department (a) principal officer, (b) assistant principal officer, (c) secretary, (d) higher executive officer, (e) assistant secretary and (f) assistant higher executive officer, for each year since 1947.

The following is the information requested:—

SCALES OF PAY IN OPERATION DURING THE PERIOD FROM 22nd JANUARY, 1947 (DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH).

NOTES.

1. The posts are shown in the order of seniority.

2. The scales shown are inclusive of all cost-of-living bonuses.

Scale A applies to a woman, or an unmarried man who is on a scale which is differentiated on a marriage basis.

Scale B applies to a married man, or an unmarried man who is on a scale which is not differentiated on a marriage basis.

3. In addition to the rates of remuneration shown children's allowances are paid to married men whose pay is differentiated on a marriage basis. The rates of allowance payable in the period in question are as follows:—

from 22nd January, 1947

— £25 for each child up to a maximum of £125
