Vol. 185 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Imports.

4.

asked the Taoiseach in respect of each of the years 1958-59 and 1959-60 the total amount expended on the importation of (1) cereals and feedings stuffs, (2) vegetables and fruit and (3) materials for agriculture.

Since the exact periods for which the Deputy requires the information are not clear from the Question I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the required particulars for the calendar years 1958 and 1959 and for the nine months ended September, 1960, the latest period for which the data are available.

The content of the first two groups in question are those items listed under Class 11, Group B and Class 11, Group C in the Official Import List respectively, and, as regards "Materials for Agriculture", those materials (e.g. maize) which are processed industrially in the country before use are not included while in the case of cattle imports only store bullocks, store heifers and calves have been included.

Following is the statement:—
