Vol. 185 No. 7

Road Traffic Bill, 1960—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make provision in relation to mechanically propelled and other vehicles, the regulation and control of road traffic and the use of mechanically propelled vehicles for the carriage of passengers, to make provision for compulsory insurance against liabilities arising from the use of mechanically propelled vehicles, to repeal the Road Traffic Act, 1933, and certain other enactments, to authorise certain charges and to make provision for other matters connected with the matters aforesaid—(The Taoiseach).
Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, February 8th, 1961.

When will these Bills be circulated?

Some time after Christmas.

I may take it that they will not be circulated on 3rd February, 1961, in fulfilment of the undertaking that they will be circulated during the Recess?

They are ordered for 8th February, 1961. In the normal way, consultation will take place between the Whips on the business for that day.

I want to ensure that they will be circulated in reasonable time.

The purpose of introducing it now is to permit of its circulation during the Recess.

Bear in mind that we shall be rather busy in the days coming up to 8th February, 1961.
