Vol. 185 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ownership of Dwellings: Contribution to National Income.

8.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in terms of constant prices (1953) the adjustments for each year since 1953 made by reason of the new series of estimates of the contribution to national income arising from the ownership of dwellings announced in page 32, National Income and Expenditure, 1959.

The deflation to constant prices in the series of national accounts published in "National Income and Expenditure, 1959", is carried out only in respect of the constituents of national expenditure. The rent element of national expenditure consists of the gross rent of dwellings (including the imputed rent of owner occupied dwellings as well as rates, repairs and maintenance and depreciation of all dwellings). The estimated figures included for this item in the publication referred to at constant (1953) prices for each year since 1953 were:

In the previous series of estimates of national expenditure the estimated gross rent of dwellings at constant (1953) prices included in the accounts was taken as £15.4 million for each year since 1953. The adjustments (at 1953 prices) made to the earlier series of gross rent figures, as a consequence of the adoption of the new series of estimates are, therefore:
