Vol. 185 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Property Values (Arbitrations and Appeals) Bill, 1960: Panel of Referees.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance what, if any, panels of referees have at any time since 1937 been appointed under any of the Acts referred to in Section 1 of the Property Values (Arbitrations and Appeals) Bill, 1960, the names of such referees, the panels on which they served, and the date of appointment of any such referee.

The information requested by the Deputy is in the form of a statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle. I propose to have circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Panel of Referees under the Finance (1909-10) Act, 1910:

Mr. Peter Hughes was appointed on 3 June, 1959, in addition to Lieut.-Colonel John J. Winters (appointed 1 July, 1946). Both are still serving.

Panel of Official Arbitrators under the Acquisition of Land (Assessment of Compensation) Act, 1919:

On 1 January, 1937, Messrs. George Hewson and James J. McAuley were in office. Mr. Hewson was originally appointed about 1918 and served until 30 June, 1938. Mr. McAuley was originally appointed on 25 July, 1934, and served until 31 August, 1945.

Mr. John Ryan was appointed on 15 March, 1938, and served until 31 March, 1941.

On 1 July, 1946, Lieut.-Colonel Winters was appointed; he is still serving.

Mr. Hughes was appointed from 1 July, 1954, to 1 April, 1955, and again on 8 September, 1958; he is still serving.

Panel of Drainage Arbitrators under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945:

Lieut.-Colonel Winters and Messrs. George G. Kirby and Michael G. Fitzgibbon were appointed on 1 August, 1954, and served until 1 August, 1959. On the expiration of this period the panel was not reconstituted as no application under the Act had been received since 1957.

May I ask the Taoiseach whether the information he proposes to circulate includes the name of one or more than one individual?

Much more.
