Vol. 185 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Credit Company: Payment of Dividend.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the Industrial Credit Company, Limited, have decided not to declare or pay any dividend this year; and if he will state the reason for such decision.

I understand that the Industrial Credit Company proposes not to pay a dividend in respect of its accounting year which ended on the 31st October last.

The reason is that the Company, with my approval, considers it desirable to strengthen its reserves in view of the expansion of its activities.

Can the Taoiseach say if the decision not to pay a dividend arises in any way from the substantial investment made in the Verolme Dockyard Company?

On the contrary, the company made a substantial profit.

Then this decision does not arise from this investment?

The company made a profit and could pay a dividend if so decided.
