Vol. 185 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Consumption by Public Undertakings.

37.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power for each of the years 1957, 1958 and 1959 and the estimate for the year 1960 of the quantity and cost of turf used or likely to be used by Bord na Móna, Aer Lingus, Córas Iompair Éireann and the Electricity Supply Board.

Full particulars of quantities and cost of turf used by the Electricity Supply Board for the Board's accounting years ended 31st March, 1958, 31st March, 1959 and 31st March, 1960 are shown in the relevant Appendix to the Board's Report for each of these years.

I am informed by Bord na Móna that they expect, during the year ending 31st March, 1961, to deliver to the Electricity Supply Board 486,300 tons of sod peat at a cost of £1,337,325 together with 636,000 tons of milled peat at a cost of £826,800.

I understand from the Electricity Supply Board that they expect to buy at the four small stations on the western seaboard 56,780 tons of locally produced hand-won turf at a cost of £132,790.

The information the Deputy has sought in respect of Bord na Móna, Aer Lingus and Córas Iompair Éireann is a matter of day-to-day administration falling solely within the ambit of the undertakings concerned.

Is there any deduction taken for sinking fund or depreciation?

That is included in the Statement of Expenditure.
