Vol. 185 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Capital Expenditure on Airports.

38.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power for the last complete financial year the total capital expenditure on or towards (a) Shannon Airport and (b) Dublin Airport; how much, if any, of such capital has been repaid to date; what interest, if any, on unpaid capital is paid by or debited to each of the said airports in, their accounts; and what expenditure on each of the airports is provided or contemplated in the present financial year or in the next two financial years.

Total voted capital expenditure for the last complete financial year (1959/60) on or towards (a) Shannon Airport was £805,011 and (b) Dublin Airport was £143,376. The corresponding figures for the period from the inception of the airports to 31st March, 1960 are (a) £4,137,438 and (b) £2,142,946. Receipts from the two airports are not allocated directly either to repayment of capital or payment of interest but in calculating the operating results of each airport interest on capital is debuted at the current rate. The Estimates for the current financial year provide for capital expenditure of £576,000 for Shannon Airport and of £381,400 for Dublin Airport. The Estimates for the coming financial year are in preparation and will be published in the official Estimates for that year. It is impracticable at this stage to make any estimate of expenditure in the following year.
