Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 14 Dec 1960

Vol. 185 No. 8

Committee on Finance. - Business of Dáil.

As a result of a discussion between the Party Whips regarding arrangements for the conclusion of the business of this session, it was agreed that the Dáil should sit to-morrow from 10.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. If Government business concludes by 3 p.m. there will be an adjournment debate, which will start after Questions, and conclude at 10.30 p.m. If Government business does not conclude by 3 p.m., the adjournment debate will start on its conclusion and carry over until Friday. The understanding is that there will be seven and a half hours at least for the adjournment debate and, of that, I am to get one hour to reply.

Has the Taoiseach covered the eventuality of Government business finishing before 3 p.m.?

We shall go on till 10.30 p.m. anyway. If there is seven and a half hours we shall finish to-morrow night; if not, we go over to Friday.

There is no limit in regard to Friday if the discussion is carried over?

There will be seven-and-a-half hours for the adjournment debate less the time for Questions.

Supposing the seven hours were up on Thursday evening would the House not sit for the extra half hour?

Yes. If half-an-hour would finish it, I am sure we would all agree to do that rather than meet on Friday.
