Vol. 186 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Packaged Goods.

30.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the growing practice whereby packaged goods are sold at prices which are much higher than the prices charged for similar goods which are not in packages; and if in view of the increasing difficulty of obtaining many essential foodstuffs except in such packages he will take steps to prevent such disproportionate price increases.

There is a trend towards the use of packaged goods but I am not aware either that there is any increasing difficulty in obtaining essential foodstuffs otherwise than in packages, or that the cost of packaging has been reflected in an undue increase in prices to the consumer.
